Site Updates
Sunday 7th September 2008 @ 18:37

If you've been around this last week you may have noticed a few changes - and probably a fair few glitches too. I've been updating the site info, adding some new sections in the gallery and links pages and putting all of the doodles from the old site back where they belong. Hopefully all of the problems are now sorted out and everything should be working fine. All that's left is to add a few new comics, get the sketches back up and draw some more!

I'm sorry for any inconvenience the maintenance has caused thus far, the remaining changes and additions shouldn't take more than a few more days now. Please bear with me a little longer. In the meantime, I hope you'll enjoy all the new additions.

New illustrations - new projects and nostalgic flashbacks
Saturday 23rd August 2008 @ 19:48

I've added two new illustrations to the gallery this time, one detailed, epic drawing and one quick sketch.

The first took me a week to complete from start to finish, and I mean a week solid. As soon as I started on the colouring I was chained to my computer for what seems like an eternity and often didn't manage to get to bed until three in the morning. It was a lot of hard work but I am so proud of the result.

This time the image features all of the main characters from In Fang and Thief and Boys Over Faeries. Jun, Xero and Meiro have headed up to the upper district of Asgard where it appears there is already a price on their heads but, from the way he is holding his sword, it's almost as though Jun's daring someone to try and claim it.

You will be able to see it in print in the upcoming volume of Neo magazine, as well as a few other images and a little article about myself. I believe it is out Thursday, 11th September. For now though, you can see it here:

The second illustration was drawn for Jayme's birthday three days ago. For quite a few years now she has demanded that I draw or construct her a card rather than simply buy one, and this is a task I really enjoy. She's had acrylic paintings, watercolours and once even a card made entirely from split pins. This year though, instead of leaving me to my own devices, she gave me a prompt: green. It made me think of one thing only and, unfortunately for her, this is what happened:

We both fell in love with Power Rangers at a young age and that strange, strange love has stayed with us. It did indeed make her laugh and she did really like it - nostalgia is a wonderful thing.

Oh, in case you were wondering, she's nineteen. :D

------------------

Now for some general updates.

As I mentioned above, I am going to be featured in the Artist Showcase section of the upcoming volume of Neo magazine. I can't tell you how happy and proud it made me when they got in touch to tell me. It's really strange because I've been drawing for what seems like forever and yet no one really sees my art, but now it's going to be featured in a national magazine. It's exciting. And scary. Eep.

The magazine goes on sale Thursday, 11th September. And my gran will be buying every copy. :)

Also, I have recently become obsessed with Hellboy. I've been drawing various cute-styled mini-manga based on the movies for the last week or so and I'm going to be sharing them here shortly. They're all going to be collected in a sort of web-based gag book for you to read online. If I do enough pages I might even get a few copies published for anyone crazy enough to want to buy one. Crazy is definitely the keyword there. Pretty much none of it makes sense!

In addition to this I am going to be rearranging my comics page to accommodate the original works I have been doing as well as my doujinshi. The first thing you can expect is the 5-page piece that I drew for Neo's manga competition, the story that inspired my upcoming web comic, To the Soul. I hope you'll all enjoy it.

Well, I think I've rambled enough for now. I'll leave you all alone now and go and pester someone else instead. See you soon.

New illustration - the price of a bacon sandwich...
Wednesday 06 August 2008 @ 20:19

This picture really epitomises the insanity that surrounds my partner-in-crime, Jayme, and myself.

You see, the story starts, as stories often should, with a bacon sandwich. No, really with the mere thought of one. Jayme makes the best bacon sandwiches in the world and if I ever fancy one I often try to get her to cook it for me. On this occasion however, she wanted something in return.

"I'll only make you one if you draw me a picture of Zoro and Sanji."

And so the deal was made. Only... She wanted a picture of Zoro and Sanji together, and in a compromising position perhaps, but instead she got this:

Bacon sandwich art trades. There really should be more of these. :D

New illustration - Secret Munryeo... hush-hush...
Friday 18 July 2008 @ 21:07

You're all sworn to secrecy... Lol.

Here's quick sketch of a new character of mine. All I can tell you about him at the moment is that he's blind in his right eye but can see more than most people... Shh.

Haha. I'll let you know more about Munryeo and his rash partner, Masa, as soon as I can.

New illustration - Seur-Chong in the Blue Dragon's realm
Wednesday 09 July 2008 @ 12:03

After reading some of my Yubinbasya Final Fantasy VII doujinshi, I was suddenly overcome by an unrelenting urge to draw... something Dragon Hunter related.

Yes, my brain does indeed make me laugh, too. ^^;

For this one, I simply picked up a pencil and drew it. When I'm being a bit spontaneous I find that I can draw a lot easier and that was definitely the case here. Initially it was going to be a picture of Goong-Chun but then I decided that I really ought to draw Seur-Chong instead and gave him a haircut.

It was coloured over two days as the background was a bit of a pain to do. The Blue Dragon's realm is very much a mass of detailed snakes and pipes and wires - and looks very much like Shadow Heart's Neeamato - and I was being a bit ambitious when deciding that was where I wanted to set the picture. I eventually decided to lose some of the detail to make the colouring look really thick, like acrylic paint, almost, and I'm pleased I did. I really like the end result.

------------------------

In other news...

I know there's still quite a bit of work to do around the site (such as uploading the full pictures of my painting, getting the doodles and sketches back up, adding links... *goes on and on*) and I am slowly getting round to that. I'm being distracted, in a way, by [scarred]. I've completed the sketching of the first part and am now starting on part two. Yay.

As well as drawing doujinshi, I'm also submitting a short manga and character design to the Neo magazine competition. Wish me luck with that one. ^^

So that's where I am at the moment. Busy without getting much done, like usual. Lol.

Before I go, I'd just like to say that, if you have time, I'd love some feedback from you guys. Just a short comment would be nice, or even just a wave. I'd guess I'd just like to know what people think about my artwork... *feels lonely*

Hehe. Anyway, I hope you like Seur-Chong enough that it's converted you to Dragon Hunter-ism. The series needs more love!

New illustration - Bishounen Hunter lives!
Saturday 28 June 2008 @ 12:14

Another one of those epic missions, this.

Kai and Rei are looking out over the nicer views of Asgard after being to see the fortune teller, Judy. It's one of the few times they are out of the filth and misery of Midgard, though for one of them it's not exactly an unfamiliar sight...

I drew the original sketch well over a year ago but that I never quite got round to finishing it. I did start to colour it a number of times, with a variety of media, but it never looked right. Now, though, I think I've just about achieved what I wanted. More importantly, perhaps, is that it's the first promo picture for my wonderful Bishounen Hunter. Yay. So, while the manga may be quite a while off yet, I hope you can appreciate the style and feel that it one day shall have.

Oh, and I thought I'd just mention that I have now seen Miyavi live. :D

Wow. It was epic. It was the most amazing experience of my life and I have no idea what could possibly match it, let alone top it. I haven't stopped smiling since, and its made me really want to finish my Kavki Boiz doujinshi. Lol. We'll have to see how that one goes...

New illustration added to the gallery
Friday 20 June 2008 @ 15:29

I've updated the gallery with a new picture of Myung-Ho from Seo Hong-Seock's amazing Dragon Hunter. I scrawled this in a few minutes as a promo picture for my new doujinshi, [scarred], and wanted to change his expression a bit so I decided to scan the image first in case anything went wrong with the original drawing. Being me, I ended up opening the scan and have a bit of a play around in Gimp... and kind of loved the result. So, yes, it's another picture from an unfinished sketch. You'll notice that the fingers of his right hand are all but obscured and that his legs are defined by about three badly-placed rough lines... but I don't think I'll touch the picture again. I like it like this :)

Website problems
Thursday 19 June 2008 @ 14:27

Since reopening the website, I've checked the layout on a few other computers operating with different versions of IE. There are some pretty darn big problems with some of the pages, both in terms of layout and content. On some pages, the sidebar appears under the main content, on others there are an army of unnecessary scrollbars. When it comes to the image pages, I've noticed that the information box underneath is replaced by a few strands of HTML code. Oy.

It all appears fine and dandy on my home computer - IE7 with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 (though other resolutions are fine, too) - and my Web and Walk phone.

If you see any problems anywhere, it would be appreciated if you could use the form in the contact page to let me know. Please mention which page(s) have bugs that need fixing, what operating system you are using and the details of the problems. And then I shall get back to fixing evil CSS and HTML code... Bleh.

Welcome back to Gasarasrevolution
Tuesday 17 June 2008 @ 21:36

After what seems like years trying to figure out the tiny, difficult details in my CSS coding, the new layout is finally up! And ahead of schedule, no less :)

There are a few changes to the site content to mention. I've put all of my pictures into the gallery section (with the sketches and doodles making a comeback sometime in the next week) and added a page for comics and doujinshi. Eventually the comics section will also house all of the information pertaining to In Fang and Thief, Boys Over Faeries and Bishounen Hunter.

The craft section is gone for the moment, though this will be up and fully functioning by late summer when I hope to have set up my online shop.

The main news this time around, in terms of work, is the near-completion of my Dragon Hunter doujinshi, [scarred]. It takes place in volume 11, shortly after Tae-Rang returns to the West. With Merlin dead and things settling down again, Myung-Ho finds his thoughts turning to the death of his sister and the many mistakes he has made. Seur-Chong isn't prepared to let him needlessly suffer, though, and tries to find a way to ease his guilt - or at least distract him from it. [scarred] is very much going to be for an adult audience, with scenes of a sexual nature. A few of them... Expect a preview in the next few weeks.

I'll be continuing to fine-tune the site for the next few days, hopefully having all of the gallery completed by the end of the week, and setting up a newsletter for anyone who would be interested in receiving the latest news or gallery updates. Also, if anyone wants to buy any of my doujinshi, let me know. They'll be in a digital format for now until I can get to the printers. The details will be up soon but I'd like to get an idea of numbers for the actually printing. ^^

I think that's pretty much all of the site news for now. What's happening in my personal life? I'm off to see Miyavi in London next Wednesday ("Eeeeee!") and then it's back to drawing [scarred] and a small comic for an upcoming competition. I'm also hoping to get a mini break organised somewhere nice but I'll have to see about that one. No rest for the wicked ^^;

Right, that's me done. If you want to leave a comment or ask a question about anything, head over to the contact page and I'll reply as soon as I can. I'd love to hear what you think about the place :D

Laura.
